TUS Representing Workers- Industrial Action

This module enables students to extend their knowledge of, and capacity to act in, a range of common industrial relations situations. The emphasis is on the practical application of union and legal rules and third-party procedures. The module will allow the programme team to offer a flexible range of issues for students to study appropriate to their union role and employment setting.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

  • Show knowledge of the principal collective procedures and third-party structures available for the resolution of workers’ issues or grievances, including legal rules where applicable
  • Show a practical application of procedures and rules in a specific setting
  • Demonstrate awareness of the potential for clashes of interest between involved parties, and show how unions identify and defend individual and collective rights of workers against management

This is a 5-credit Level 6 module offered in a number of ways:  a 5×3 hour night classes or 2xday classes with minor field trip or 1xnight class/half-day class with major field trip both offered over a 5-week period. Where field trips are made available, they will be counted as classroom time.

This particular offering will focus on Representing through Industrial Action.
