Objective:
This module aims to provide learners with an appreciation of the main tenets of occupational safety and health legislation and practice, alongside an understanding of the role of trade unions in ensuring safe and healthy workplace environments, through bargaining or other means.
On completion of this module you should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the relevant provisions of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and associated Regulations under the act.
- Demonstrate understanding of how trade unions use safety committees and representatives to develop and promote the union’s own policies and aims.
- Demonstrate the ability to anticipate / design trade union responses to health or safety issues at the workplace, and to contribute to the development of union policy.
